I was also on the tour with Anne and agree that this library is the best of its kind. Richard Reyes Gavilan, Executive Director of the DC Library, is a very creative and forward thinking leader. I've been to several new or renovated library east of the river and they too are very well done. Also, no shushing of the children - or adults!
Again, a great post, Anne. Wow, that library fulfills so many needs in the community. Tiverton built a new library in 2014. I was on the Board of Trustees at the time. It was a hard-fought battle to get the town to chip in 25% of the needed cost of building. Our Senator, Jack Reed, obtained the land with a federal grant and we received some state funding. It's gorgeous. I still recall the children's room at the Ashland, MA town library. I checked out a book called "Shawn O'Day of Ireland" again and again. I recall being obsessed with it. Published in 1929, I doubt that it would stand the test of time. Keep writing.
