On December 23, 1884, my great grandfather Julius Friedlaender (father of my grandmother Irma whom I wrote about here) arrived in New York after a 16 day trip in third class aboard the steamship, Gellert, from Hamburg, Germany.
This brings me to tears. You tell the story of your great grandfather and there is a similar story that could be told of my grandfather. Indeed, what could be more American. Thank you.
love this, Anne! thanks for sharing!
Love to read these kinds of stories. Thank you.
Always a treat to read one of your stories. So wonderful.
I love the immigrant stories...as you say, unless you are Native American, you are an immigrant. Thanks for sharing one of your ancestors.
