It is hoped that much of the “cosmetic” damage can be undone, but of the deeper destruction of the institutions and norms, who knows?

I clicked "like", but that's only a comment on your post, not the thought of what's happening in DC and at all our public institutions. Very deflating.

Do you count the national guard as part of the trump vanity projects?

Not sure when you started reading (and thank you for that!) but I've written about the National Guard deployment multiple times starting last summer and again after the two guard members were shot in November (plus a brief mention with my latest No Kings post). Not a fan.

Was more of a joke about more vanity projects. Sorry I was not clearer

You said it - vanity projects indeed. And the 700,000 of us who live in DC without voting representation have a front-row seat

As a tour guide and public historian (and DC citizen), I really appreciate this post.

This is to me emblematic of this entire admin’s approach to American history and America250 - a dozen generic Revolutionary figures, void of any context or details or specificity, standing in for a vaguely defined ideal. It doesn’t have any meaning or depth; it’s simply meant to look impressive to folks who will only ever view it while speeding by in a motorcade.

(And hoo boy, if they knew anything about Pulaski, they probably would have tried to take it out.)
